Day 367: -1.5 lbs.

I crossed the 1-year mark and I’m 6 lbs. short of making my goal of losing 100 lbs. for the year. I guess I’ll be stuck in the 300s for one more month and then I can kiss it goodbye forever.

More things I’ve learned:

I thought about this some more since the last post and decided to add a couple more things:

4) Body size changes are gradual at first. I read an article awhile back that correlated the weight loss-body size relationship to a roll of paper towels. As you tear off sheets (lose weight) a new roll doesn’t change size (diameter) too much. However as the roll gets smaller, the same number of sheets will make a big difference in the diameter of the roll.

5) A calorie is not necessarily a calorie. Maybe you have been out to dinner at a nice restaurant and observed a fellow diner who ordered a dinner salad as the “main course” and then a huge piece of cheese cake for dessert. I too used to think that it didn’t matter whether I spent my calorie allotment on fruits, veggies, whole grains and low-fat proteins or if I saved ‘em up for a piece gelato and truffle cake. Well, I’m here to tell you that it does matter. I can’t say for certain that it is related to the way the body handles the two types of food or whether my estimate of portion size runs amok at the thought of something that I haven’t thought of for so long. Or, if it’s a combination of both! I’ve learned, however, that I don’t feel deprived if I eat sensibly most of the time but know that I can “save up” for a few forkfuls of a very occasional treat.

Lesson is over. I have to go schmooze a client now.
